The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.

The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.

A Year of High Performance

Across the season, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Record-Breaking Statistics

Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.

She received nearly 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.

Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".

Other WTA Award Recipients

• Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
• Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
• Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five championship matches.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
