Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Real Fans'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Increase Tension on the Manager
Spurs supporters who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs conceded a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight home loss of the year.
But the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next score when the keeper lost the ball well outside his box.
He ventured out to handle a high pass and carried the ball near the touchline.
However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the net from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six yards.
Seconds afterwards when the ball came to the keeper again, a number of Spurs supporters jeered him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions really irritated Frank.
"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly booed the situation and booed after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Dane commented about the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals cannot be real Tottenham fans that act that way. Alright booing after the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are with one another going forward."
Tete had handed the visitors a early lead before Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second period showing.
Former Premier League keeper Hart remarked that the next goal was "totally preventable".
"I do understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the role the keeper is performing. He is a great team player, he's a real leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"He was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning score."
'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italy international the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old said following the match that he had to accept the feedback.
"The second score was a error of mine, I accept accountability for it," he said.
"The intent was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad manner. It was an even bigger challenge to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the situation in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.
"It is on us to stay increasingly composed, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in composure and poise to reverse results. Today is a bad loss and it is tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me No One Returned to the Goal Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was not an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.
Actually it was the next longest-range Premier League goal of the season – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on Saturday.
The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty net to aim for.
10 moments elapsed between the keeper exiting of his box and the midfielder striking – which was 5 moments after the kick.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for a long time," he said.
"I was surprised none of the defenders went back to the line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a little extra time. After that it was all about attempting to make the correct connection and place it towards goal. I had a positive sense, as soon as it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Appears to Work Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager
While the keeper's error led coverage, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to extend their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club statistic matching 1994 and 2003.
The side still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and champions Liverpool to come prior to the end of the year.
Only one of those victories have come since the manager replaced his predecessor in the off-season.
"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, all aspects seems to work against you too – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a error from Vic.
"This result puts us in a position where we have suffered an additional game. Each fixture has a unique narrative, today we lost in the early stages.
"We just need to continue striving. The later period was much better and with luck something we can use to develop."
Spurs have lost four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the top division.
Furthermore they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a single season (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Former Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He must accept the stick," the pundit said. "He has taken a high profile job at a major football club with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
