Operations Recommence at Edinburgh Airport Following Substantial Control Tower IT Issue

Aircraft on the runway at Edinburgh Airport
A systems problem at the airport's air traffic control meant all flights could enter or leave the facility.

Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a major ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were suspended after an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

Officials linked the operational halt to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers should still plan to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as residual delays are managed.
