Former National Football League Athlete Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Response in Attempted Murder Charges
Former National Football League star Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an attempted murder accusation connected with a gunfire that happened in May, as his counsel filing a innocent plea on his behalf.
Detention documents in Essex County, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was discharged on Tuesday early for his transfer to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular players in the National Football League, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was held after being taken into custody in Dubai.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has previously filed a formal not guilty declaration to the murder attempt accusation. Brown could be in a Miami court as early as Wednesday morning for a bond session, Eiglarsh stated.
As per his arrest document, Brown is accused of taking a handgun from a security staffer after a public figure match event in May and firing a couple of shots at a person he had fought with earlier. The claimed victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told police that a bullet scraped his neck.
Eiglarsh said that Brown was only defending himself from Nantambu.
“The measures he was obliged to take were exclusively in defense against the reported victim’s hostile conduct. Brown was assaulted that night and behaved within his rightful privilege to protect himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not immediately apprehended because initially police did not identify Nantambu as a victim. It only later in May that Nantambu provided a complete statement about the incident to officers and named Brown as the shooter, the report says.
According to his social media posts, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for several weeks. In a post after the altercation, Brown claimed he was protecting himself because he was “jumped by multiple people who tried to take my valuables and inflict personal injury to me.”
A category two attempted murder charge in Florida imposes a maximum fifteen-year incarceration sentence and up to a $10,000 fine in the case of a guilty verdict.
Brown has encountered multiple court problems over the years. He previously had been alleged of assault of a delivery operator, various family violence accusations, failure to pay parental support and other events.
During a 2021 contest with his team against the New York Jets, Brown removed his jersey, shoulder pads and gloves and exited the stadium, resulting in his release by the franchise and effectively concluding his football tenure.
Brown, who completed twelve years in the National Football League, was an elite player who passed the majority of his tenure with Pittsburgh. During his time, Brown had over 900 catches for over 12,291 gains, the 28th highest of history. He was a multiple-time prestigious pick.
