2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Follows Mixed Feedback

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last fall.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.

Here is the complete message from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I know you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the need for a clearer identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to consideration and reimagined the title with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its promise to our fans.

The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, he officially joins us on next week.

His guidance and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having spent the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Please join me in greeting Ben soon. We are all looking forward to keep observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.

Game Details and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in last year alongside a community playtest. Initially, the developers portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the description reads. "Challenge the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and tests that evolve every round. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or take a risk, risk it all, and pray your team can secure victory? The option is up to you."

The game does not have an official release date or supported systems, but players can expect further news as production continues.
